Knit City takes place in East Vancouver in an eclectic and diverse area known as the East Village. There are many places to eat, shop and get coffee. Here are some places we recommend:
COFFEE: Yes, there is a Starbucks down the street or you could try the Laughing Bean, a friendly, community oriented coffee shop that serves a great cup of Joe.
FOOD: For those of you staying at the Atrium Inn, there is of course the Press Box Pub. We have been assured that they will have more staff working the weekend of Knit City than they have in previous years, but due to the high volume of Knit City attendees at the hotel it will be busy (and loud - there is karaoke on Friday nights).
We encourage you to explore the neighbourhood - there are some hidden gems! Across the street from the hotel, you'll find Pho Don and Blowfish Sushi (both are usually packed with Knit City attendees, especially at dinner). A short walk west on Hastings is the delicious Curry Zone and a little further on you'll find Tacofino, Campagnolo Roma, and Tamam Mediterranean Food - we highly recommend them all.
SHOPPING: The neighbourhood has it's very own LYS: Baaad Anna's. This friendly shop will be vending at Knit City but will also be open to the public over the weekend. Not yarn related, but also worth a visit are: Red Cat Records and Tiny Finery (handmade jewellery, ceramics and gifts).
If you have an extra day to spare and craft beer and spirits are your thing, the East Village has a self-guided brewery and distillery tour complete with printable passport. You can find more information about it here.
We hope you enjoy your visit to East Vancouver!
